One benefit of using Bitlockercompared to 3rd party alternatives, is that Microsoft integrate it as part of the Windows 10 operating system. This is especially beneficial when upgrading to a new version of Windows Speaking from my experience, 3rd party antivirus and encryption alternatives is a major hassle when upgrading Windows Microsoft releases two updates to Windows 10 every year as part of its evergreen strategycalled Windows as a Service.

Bitlocker uses bit encryption by default but can be changed to bit encryption. With Windows 10Microsoft changed its recommendation from bit encryption to bit encryption.

The reason for this being that customers had reported performance issues and Microsoft could see no reason for keeping the bit encryption recommendation. Read more about this in the security baseline for Windows 10 :. This will only encrypt the used space and is much faster than encrypting the whole drive. Long Bitlocker encryption times were an issue with traditional hard drives, but with SSD drives, this is not as big of an issue.

To ease this, you can use Bitlocker pre-provisioning, where only the used space was encrypted. I have written a blog post about why Bitlocker allocates all your free space. Bitlocker leverages hardware security using the TPM chip. Although it is recommended to use a TPM chip, not all hardware has it. The reason either being old hardware or regional restrictions, such as in China.

The current version of the TPM chip is 2. Note that TPM 2. UEFI needs to be enabled for many security features in Windows I have written blog posts on how to upgrade TPM from 1.

If you are using a TPM chip, the Windows boot-up process is zero-touch for the user.

Enabling Bitlocker in your environment is generally recommended to increase security. As it is exceptionally difficult to break the Bitlocker cryptography, you can save yourself much headache by implementing Bitlocker. Bitlocker automatic device encryption is enabled by default if you log in to Windows 10 using a Microsoft or Azure account. Bitlocker is not automatically enabled if you log in using a local account. Bitlocker can be enabled during Operating System Deployment or on existing machines.

After enabling Bitlocker in your organization, you might want a simple command for checking the encryption status of a client. As I mentioned in the introduction, there are several ways of checking the Bitlocker encryption status.

You can easily use Powershell to check the Bitlocker status on a machine. Open an elevated command prompt and enter the following command:.This tool is simple and straight forward. So I am looking for a Utility from Panasonic to do this with our Toughbooks as well. But so far I could not find any tool from Panasonic to do this.

If any conditions are true. That doesn't address what I'm doing, I've already created the app packages that can enable and activate TPM and they work, but I want to restrict the task to only run if the machine does not have TPM turned on.

The task group will only try to run on Dell systems, I got that working easily enough. Most important details are logs. I don't have a log to show, because it isn't logged during the Preinstall phase. There are caveats to scripting TPM to be turned on. That is that preprovisioning won't occur since the system has to be rebooted after enabling TPM and you can't do that during the WinPE portion of the imaging. It hasn't been a problem for us anymore because all the systems we by already have TPM enabled out of the box, but ownership hasn't occurred, so it isn't an issue to reimage without clearing TPM.

I don't ever rely on the script to enable TPM, I just use it as a safety net because I'd rather the system be preprovisioned for BitLocker. Friday, October 16, PM.I am attempting to start looking at our systems to implement Bitlocker on some of my domain computers.

I am attempting to determine what bios level they are at, and if the systems have TPM enabled, of if they have the TPM chip. When naming variables, in PowerShell there's less need of adding the type to the name. You have already created the object, so just send it to the CSV file. And if you are not going to export the property, then there's no point creating it in the hash table above. This makes your code much easier to read and hopefully gets you a great answer faster.

Did you at least get it working locally? However, you should be able to run the script on the remote machine and have it report back, as in the script linked.
